How to Choose a Wedding Season That Fits Your Vision

One of the first questions I ask a new couple isn’t about colors or venues — it’s about the calendar. In Louisiana, the season you pick shapes almost everything else about your day, so it’s worth thinking through before you fall in love with a date.

Spring (March–May)

This is our most requested window, and for good reason: the humidity hasn’t set in yet, azaleas are blooming, and evenings are pleasant enough for an outdoor reception. The trade-off is availability — popular venues and vendors book out a year or more in advance for spring Saturdays.

Fall (October–November)

My personal favorite for outdoor New Orleans weddings. The heat breaks, the light gets golden earlier in the evening, and it pairs beautifully with the city’s festival season energy. Like spring, book early.

Summer (June–August)

Not impossible, just different. If you love the idea of a summer wedding, plan around the heat rather than against it: earlier ceremony times, shaded or air-conditioned reception spaces, and a hydration station your guests will actually thank you for.

Winter (December–February)

Underrated. Mild by most standards, dramatically lower demand on venues and vendors, and New Orleans in December has its own kind of magic. If budget flexibility matters to you, this is where I’d point you first.

There’s no wrong season — there’s the one that matches how you want your day to feel. Let’s talk through what that looks like for you.
